Saas-Almagell

Saas-Almagell is located on a height of 1672 meters a.s.l. in the county of Visp in the Swiss canton Vailais in the Saalstag valley. Every year uncountable sportsmen and tourists from all over the world come to visit Saastal to spend wonderful days here. And there is something for everyone. Whether skiing, snowboarding or Nordic skiing in winter or hiking, biking or mountaineering in summer, here everyone will have a blast. Yet, it is not only the great lanscape but also the friendliness of the locals that characterizes Saas-Almagell.
Due to its geographic location of 46.02 degrees North and 7 degrees East Saas-Grund receives temperatures above average and many sun hours. Moreover, it is one of the places with most snow in Valais. Snow can be guaranteed from December to April and guests are mostly treated with sunshine and powder snow.
A tour thorugh the Almagellertal valley will lead you to the climbing Eldorada atr the Almagellerhütte. Starting from here you can master classics such as Dr Hörnli, Portjengrat and Lagograt. At Dri Hörnlich you will find great tours for climbing that will satisfy any ambitious climber.  Fans of ski touring will find uncrowded routes in the bowl of Mattmark. Another insiders tip is Stellihorn.
Many celberities are at home in Saas-Grund. Pirmin Zurbriggen, former world champion and Olympic winner in alpine skiing, Heidi Zurbriggen, former world cup racer and double vice world champion in alpine skiing and Silvan Zurbriggen, world cup racer and vice world champion in slalom.
Saas-Almagell ahs about 388 inhabitants and many hotels offer accommodation for numerous guests. In addition, there are many boarding houses available that offer cozy rooms for little money and are a good alternative. As Saas-Almagell is a quite popular holiday destination it is recommendabke to book early. It might be difficult to find accommodation, especially during the peak season. At these times it is recommendable to switch to the neighboring villages Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen.
Saas-Fee is one of the great ski resorts in Switzerland offering 100 km of trails of which 40km are marked as easiest (blue), 40 km are marked as intermediate (red) and 20 km are marked as most difficult (black). In addition, there are some ski routes. 22 lifts are in service and give skiers and rider a ride uphill. 12 are surface lifts, 2 are chait lifts and 8 are gondolas and aerial cable ways.
