This therefore means that one needs to be sure about a certain organization he or she is willing to make a donation to just to be sure that it will be used in the right way and not in accomplishing the selfish needs of those out to swindle good willed people. There are things that should be taken into consideration to ensure that you donate safely and indeed manage to make a positive change to the disadvantaged.
Certification: before settling on a charity, it is advisable to check whether it is certified and listed by the correct body. This can be done through going to the IRS website and searching for the organizations on question. The search will also offer information on the tax status of the organization. On the other hand, you can directly contact the responsible people and ask to see a certification letter.
Check on past projects and budget: to be sure that a charity organization is indeed genuine, it is essential to check on the success of previous projects and how the money donated was put to use in helping the less fortunate in the community. A good charity will use at least 65 percent of the donations towards making the projects possible. Anything that is lower than that should be thoroughly checked and handled with care as it could mean the donations are misappropriated in some way.
Listen to your instincts: when choosing a worthy cause to make a donation to, you will always have a gut feeling towards the whole affair and the organization at large. You should be convinced enough that your donation is in the right hands and that it will be used making the cause you have chosen a reality.
