EVA Air Continues Expanding International Services
This airline, EVA Air, is a privately owned business with an interesting history. Few airlines have the financial support of so many private investors to stay afloat even during these troubling economic times. Not long after starting up, this airline had acquired long haul aircraft with secured funds to get their business rolling. EVA operates within Taiwan and offers domestic flights and international flights to Europe, Asia and the US. Flying since the early 90s, this company has international and domestic cargo hauling arrivals and departures. EVA has accomplished much in the last couple decades which we will discuss in the remainder of this article. The early roots of EVA began in late 1988 when the chairman of Evergreen Marine Corporation stated they wanted to create Taiwan’s first non-publicly held airline. This was the result of the government reducing the restrictions on the structure of air travel. When a natural opportunity arises, such as with a governmental decision, most wealthy business people are right there to take advantage. Following standards set by the government is all you can ask of business people. Certain options to ensure the stability of the airlines were expected, by the Taiwanese leadership, to be in place.
By the mid 1990s, EVA was servicing twenty two international destinations thanks to their ability to acquire long distance passenger flight aircraft. The company expanded rapidly as over 3 million passengers began to fly every year on their planes. They have a great safety record which is one of the primary motivations for people to fly with this company. They were now able to compete with other airlines which was something they were unable to do before. Just a few short years later, in the late 90s, EVA was able to secure much needed certifications which allowed them to enter other service sectors.
McDonnell Douglas played a large role in the 1990s in regard to EVA and their airliners. Getting Boeing 747-400 airliners was a major step forward for this company in establishing flights to Los Angeles. Affordable premium economy class cabins were a highlight of EVA’s rise to fame. They even included additional legroom in their airliners for passengers. Flying to your destination was made very easy because of what you would receive. 1993 was the year of expansion for this company adding Vienna, Austria and Seattle, Washington as destination points.
EVA Air is evermore proving what is viable by planning intelligently and deliberate thinking. During the early nineties, they got a grip by eventually merging with some smaller airline companies and some important alliances. However, EVA remained the name of the consortium that absorbed the other airlines. In the face of having to make some immense cost-cutting changes at the start of the early 2000’s, it still took them multiple years before they would reveal what their first profits were. Things are looking wonderful and hopeful after the first decade of the twenty-first century, for Taiwan’s own airline.
