Summer 2011 – Styles Of Skirts

Summer time has kicked in all its brightness and it’s about time you kick your wardrobe into gear with the best skirt styles to flatter your shape. There are a range of skirts out there from the thinnest to the curviest of women. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular styles dominating the fashion chart:

Different kinds of skirt styles:

• Pencil Skirt
As Wiki describes it, a pencil skirt is as the name suggests a slim fitting skirt with a narrow and straight cut. Generally the hem falls to, or just below, the knee and is tailored for a close fit. A versatile fashion staple, it was first designed by Christian Dior in the late 1940s.

• A-line Skirt
An A-line skirt is a skirt that is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, giving the impression of the shape of a capital letter A. These skirts are extremely popular and are quite loved by women of all ages and body types. Once again the credit for naming the skirt goes to the one and only French couture designer Christian Dior when he used it as the label for his collection of spring 1955.

• Asymmetrical Skirt
Asymmetrical skirts are basically skirts with an uneven hemline. They come in all shapes, styles and fashions and are quite in vogue these days. Asymmetrical skirts are a great way to draw attention to the wearer’s legs. Wearing an asymmetrical properly adds variety to your wardrobe and some flare to your outfit.

• Tube Skirt
Simply the longer versions of the pencil skirts, Tube skirts fit at the hip and taper at the hem. The visible difference is that they go down below the knee and works excellently with slim figures.

• Flared Skirt
Flared skirts are basically just like A-line skirts, but with an extra flare. It works wonderfully to cover the fat over thighs and hips. For those women on the extremely thin side, these are excellent choices. Try them out in large prints as it will give a voluptuous appearance. Flared skirts are good option for summer dresses.

• Fit and Flare Skirt
A fit and flare skirt is basically a skirt where the flare starts from the hip, instead of from the waist. Those with a smaller derriere would look fantastic in such skirts as it accentuates the hip curves and covers up the lack of a thigh curve.

• Mini Skirt
The favorite of the summer season and a favorite among men and women alike! Mini skirts are basically those skirts with an ultra short hemline. It works fantastically with women wanting to show off their toned legs. But if you feel mini is too short for you then short skirts are good option for you

• Pleated Skirt
Plated skirts appear best in short length, just above the knees. These are skirts we probably saw on school uniforms and are quite popular in checks. The flare of this skirt is reduced by plates and it fits the waist. It looks nice on both, slim and slightly plump figures.
