Flash Banner Design: The Secrets to Success
Flash banner design is all about putting the customer first. Flash banners are not popular with consumers because most flash banner design willfully ignores their experience. The following are the secrets to flash banner success:
1. Far and away the biggest disadvantage of flash banners is their large file size. Large file sizes load slowly and slow down the loading of the page. For this reason you should keep your flash animation simple, live action video and sound are not recommended.
2. Text is the most crucial element of your flash banner. Use a small amount of high quality text to sell your product. By using a small amount of text you can reduce the speed at which it loops, fast text is unreadable. Loop you message once or twice and then have the banner freeze on an impressive static image like your logo.
3. A lot people find flash banners distracting when they are trying to read text nearby. A lot of people also just don’t like flash banners period. Don’t force your banner on the public, make it discreet and always give people the option to pause/close it.
4. In order to build your brand you need to make people familiar with it. Make sure your flash banner design conforms aesthetically with the rest of the materials your company puts out e.g. website, print ads, merchandise, etc. Of special importance is consistency between flash banner and landing page.
5. As a relatively new advertizing medium people don’t have a lot of experience with web banners. For this reason people don’t always realize they are interactive or are reluctant to interact with them. Invite consumers to click your flash banner by including a call to action. A little icon that says ‘click for more information’ is enough.
