AIDS 2012 : The Path to A Cure Against HIV
HIV is a virus that slowly attacks immune system cells. Since HIV progressively damages these cells, the body becomes more susceptible to different infections, which it typically hastroublefighting off. It is at a very advanced stage of HIV infectionwhen a person is said to have AIDS. It can take years before HIV has damaged the immune system as much as necessary for AIDS to develop.
Recently researchers have discovered that reservoirs of virus go unscathed by ARV therapy. In the recent years, these HIV reservoirs have been tied to enduring cellular inflammation, responsible for all kinds of harmful effects, including cardiovascular disease, cognitive problems and certain cancers. This has given rise to the question of whether the virus is actively within the HIV reservoir or if the cells are simply releasing virus that is trapped within the cells. This is an important question. If constant is taking place, then simply by adding more potent drugs you could shut it down. If there is no active , and infected cells are only discharging intact virus, then the only way to get rid of it will be to eliminate these infected cells completely.
Although researchers are coming closer to find a HIV cure and have many promising avenues to pursue, there are still a number of barriers to a cure; some of them are quite significant. Apart from that, for the most part, HIV cure research is yet to reach to an advanced stage; The researches are basically going on in laboratories now and not at clinics yet. One of the key problems with trying to cure HIV is that, since scientists still do not know much of the science behind HIV infections and what a cure can do, there are concerns that existing approaches towards a HIV cure canshow unforeseen consequences, including problems like cancer. If the goal of a treatment is a functional cure by reducing or eliminating the need for antiretrovirals to control the virus, then the definition of a cure is rather simple.Either patients still need antiretrovirals, or they do not need them. But, for a sterilizing cure – it needs complete eradication of the virus from the body.
There will be an International AIDS Conference which is also referred as aids 2012 and a HIV workshop at Saint Martin from December 6-9, 2011. In these conferences and workshops you can get to know more about HIV Reservoirs eradication and cure. You can come across many scientists and researchers who will share the facts about the latest discoveries and researches. It is an ideal time for you all to join hands and fight back HIV or AIDS.
