Crashing could be a thing of the past!
Scientist and car manufacturers are currently working on the most groundbreaking of car technology. Cars that don’t crash. Just imagine living in a world where you will never have another bump or have to worry about your teenager who has just passed their driving test. It sounds like something that can never happen but they are working on it as we speak.
The first project is something entitled auto-braking, it does what it says. The car has the intelligence to know when another car is too near and thus slows down accordingly. The system is managed by a variety of sensors and GPS measurement units. Tests are still being carried out but initial results are good.
There are also a number of other developments which are said to aid driver. General Motors in Detroit are currently working on a windscreen which will assist the driver and almost given them a superhuman vision. The system is designed to highlight dangers and possible hazards and would be ideal in adverse weather conditions such as fog.
There are also plans to equip the car with a device which can predict the type of injuries a passenger might have ( maybe thats in case auto braking fails). The car computer will be able to contact emergency services and give vital information such as the location of the car, angle of impact and changes in velocity.
In my opinion it all seems to be a little too futuristic to be realised. A bit like the flying cars which we are still waiting for. However, a vision of no more Newtownabbey Used Renault car crashes would be ground breaking genius
