Summer Beach Essentials for Your Little Boy
Summer means hot weather, and hot weather means trips to the beach to catch some sun and do a little swimming. Any family heading to the beach needs to be prepared for all the elements, and this is especially important for the little man in your family. The younger your son is, the more important it is that you keep him happy and healthy, especially if it’s his first time to the beach. You don’t want his first experience to leave a bad impression!
Some things to equip and have on hand for your young son include:
• Sunscreen – One of the single most important things you can carry is a generous helping of sunscreen. As anyone who has ever spent a significant time in the sun knows, having sunburn, especially a severe one, is an absolutely miserable and painful experience. Keeping your little guy’s skin safe from the sun’s radiation needs to be a top priority!
• Sand Toys – Playing in the sand allows kids to use their imagination by crafting castles, making rivers and streams, digging holes and any other act of construction–or deconstruction–that strikes their fancy. Chances are, your son will be able to come up with some truly unique structures, and having a few beach toys along like a bucket and spade are just the thing to get the imaginative juices flowing. Or, maybe he’d like throwing around a ball or frisbee around. A beach is a great place to run around and get some exercise so long as he isn’t kicking sand at other beach goers!
• Sandals – A beach is a great barefoot location, but having some well-fitting sandals for your son is important for a few reasons. First off, if you have any kind of walk from your car to the beach, he obviously needs to have some shoes to walk in, and sandals are ideal to get on and off quickly without having to worry about socks or anything else that can get lots of sand trapped inside. Second, beach sand can get very hot sometimes, and wearing sandals on the beach may be necessary to keep his feet from getting burned. Finally, when swimming there are often things under the water that can cause damage to the feet like broken shells, various crustaceans with pinchers and other hidden things that can scratch or puncture the foot. Having sandals on while in the water can protect his feet more effectively against those sorts of things.
• Boys Swimwear – Obviously, boys swimwear is a necessity for swimming. Boys board shorts are loose fitting, comfortable and give plenty of room for movement both in and out of the water.
Having the right equipment, along with plenty of parental supervision, will help make your beach trip a fantastic memory for your young son.
