Economical, safe and secure
Toyota claim that the Toyota Prius pioneered hybrid technology in mass production vehicles. To be honest I’m not going to argue, the Prius was definitely one of the first if not the first production hybrid models to hit the market and my local Toyota dealer in Newcastle was one of the first dealerships to have them in show.
Others have tried to catch up and produce their own hybrid models, like the Honda Civic Hybrid. I’ve driven both of these and in the Prius you do feel as though it is one step ahead of the Civic. The Prius has also been proven to be safe and reduces the impact of an accident to both occupants and pedestrians.
Now Toyota can also boast that the Prius is the securest green car out there. At the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards the Toyota Prius was named the most secure green car. The British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards are designed to raise awareness of best practice in vehicle security. Vehicles are assessed according to the New Vehicle Security Rating Scheme (NVSR), with points awarded under the categories of ‘theft of’ and ‘theft from’ the vehicle. The winners are the models achieving the highest score in each category.
Mike Briggs, Thatcham’s Vehicle Security Manager, said, “Many congratulations to Toyota who have held on tightly to the crown for the most secure Green Car for the second year running and remain the only winners of this recently introduced category. As the top performing Prius T3 proves, car owners can do their bit for the environment without the need to compromise on vehicle security.”
