Regular washing machine problems with some useful fixes
Washing machines are the type of appliance that can encounter a number of different problems due mainly to their construction, setup, the fact that they incorporate household water and also because each use of the machine is much more demanding compared what most appliances will encounter. Even good quality washing machines can encounter a number of different problems during its life; some of the common ones are listed below.
Leaking washing machines
This is a very common problem, due to the fact that there is a lot of movement coming from the machine during usage it can loosen some of the plumbing attached to it which may cause leaks at the joints, these are prominent in plastic pipes as they slip apart more easily and therefore allow water to drip out on to the floor or under sinks. This is usually solved by the correct tightening of the pipes and their joints, done by a spanner or by a strong hand in some cases.
Overfilling machines
Machines can over fill in different ways, they can continuously pump water in which overfills and reverses back down the pipes or it can overfill in the machine which can cause leakages as well as a result. This over filling is often caused by blockages in the pipes which occur when small pieces are collected along with linings on the pipe building up. These blockages can be addressed by taking the suspected pipes apart; it is worth having a bucket ready in these cases for spillages. Once the plumbing pipes are separated you may be able to identify the blockage area which can be cleaned out along with any other potential future blockages.
Errors and non starting washes
Sometimes washing machines can be clearly turned on but simply refuse to start, this may be in the form of an error code or frozen lights. In this case it is worth checking the drum inside and the refuse tray at the bottom of the machine. You will need to check if the drum is able to turn ok, if not then something will be blocking in from other areas of the machine. The refuse tray at the front of the machines bottom can be opened or removed in most cases where any contents such as curtain clips, keys and other small parts can be removed to allow another try.
If you suspect there could be an electrical fault or a breakage of the concrete block then it is usually best to find a washing machine repair specialists to carry out more in depth washing machine repairs onsite.
