The company was established back in 1855 at Nashville, Tennessee of the U.S, initially as a publishing house. Later, it ventured into direct selling and motivated students to sell their educational products door to door. The southwestern internship program went on to become a big hit among school and college students who liked the idea of earning much needed cash at summer breaks.
Although it is the monetary inspiration which still motivates several students to enroll for the program, yet it delivers more than just money to students. It helps them to learn life skills like perseverance, thinking ability, decision making ability, leadership and others. Further, these lessons can come handy for them in every walk of life. At present, nearly 3000 students take part in the internship program from around 30 colleges and universities throughout the world. However, they can sell those products at retail rates and gain profit on each and every sell. They get proper training on door to door selling from expert mentors and they also get guidance from seniors and team leaders in the field. There is so much to learn from them at every moment. The hands-on training in direct selling helps them to build in their will power and patience as well.
The Southwestern Company now caters to several fields like insurance, finance, fund raising and others; there are 15 wings of the company at the moment.
