Cars that hold their value

If you’re one of the many who’s considering buying a brand new car, have you ever wondered how much your car will be worth in one year’s time? Residual value is one factor with car buying than many potential buyers seems to forget about. It’s all about low carbon emissions, great fuel economy, security features, potential extras and warranties so the issue of how much you’ll get for your car once you decide to sell it again is generally forgotten about completely.

But below is a rundown of the top five cars in terms of their used value based on 12 months and 10,000 miles. The number five spot is an old model, the Kia Picanto, which was first launched in the UK in 2004. New price is just over £7,000 while the predicted value after 12 months is around £4,868. That equates to a depreciation of around 32 percent.

Number four spot goes to the MINI Countryman 1.6 D which with a new price of £19, 875 and a predicted value after 1 year of £17, 574 only looses you around 11.6 percent. This is a low and comparable with a Mini Convertible which only looses about 10.9 percent of its value but both cars are expensive to buy so the cheaper cars are rated above.

Number three in this overview is the Nissan Juke 1.6 Visa with a depreciation of around 16.8 percent. Like the in Countryman is a bit of an offbeat choice and you’re guaranteed to stand out in one of these. The Nissan was beaten to the silver spot by the more classic Honda Civic 1.8 which looses around 13.8 percent from its original sale price of £14,310.

And top spot goes to the Audi A1 1.6 with a depreciation of only 10.5 percent from its sale price of £17, 865 after 12 months of driving. The car retains its value because it’s cheap to run, is stylish and is of German quality.
