RV Travel Fun In New York
The state of New York has so much to see that it may keep the RV traveler busy for a few months trying to see everything it has to offer. Every family is different as to what sights they want to see, where they want to go and what they want to do, but no matter where one chooses to go, there is fun to be found tucked away in every little town of New York. At the very top of New York sits Champlain Lake, this is the ideal place for families who love the outdoors, since part of the lake is within a short drive to the Adirondack Mountains. Route 87 is a major highway that runs north to south, next to Champlain Lake, if you go off the main highway and head west towards Lake placid; Route 9 can be found located in between. A town called Keeseville is worth taking a look at if you love the outdoors. There is a place called Ausable Chasm that has outdoor tours, a chance to pan for gemstones and a place to park the RV for a night or two. Make sure you have a camera before you stop, because the scenery is absolutely beautiful here.
If you take Route 9 south into Keene Valley, this will bring you very close to Mt. Marcy, the highest point in New York, although you cannot drive to the highest point, there area tourist locations that offer a chance to get a better view. Heading west will take you into Lake Placid, the city known for hosting the Olympic Games in the past.
Besides the more familiar tourist areas of New York including, New York City, Niagara Falls, Albany and the Finger Lakes region, the Adirondack Mountains region has so much to offer, but let’s go to the western part of New York to see what is hidden there. Syracuse is approximately two hundred miles from Lake Placid. By following Route 3 west, and then taking Interstate 81 south, you will be driving parallel to Lake Ontario. If you love lighthouses and architecture, take Interstate 81 north into Alexandria Bay. There is a lot to see within a few miles including the Boldt Castle, which is full or architecture and detail, an information center is near the castle to find out about local festivals and events that will be taking place when you arrive. This area is known as thousand islands seaway, and each area has something tucked in the corners. Whether it is architecture, fishing, boating, horseback riding, or observing, this is a great area of New York. From Alexandria Bay to Henderson is about fifty miles, that has all these great attractions including lighthouses.
From Lake Champlain to Mt. Marcy, then into Lake Placid, moving onward to Alexandria Bay, will keep a family busy for awhile. Other things to see include Whiteface Mountain just north of Lake placid, waterfalls that are in just about every county, and if caves are something you would find as adventurous, while traveling on Route 3, you will find a place called Natural Bridge, that is packed with natural wonder.
