Understanding Where your Snacks come From

We all love to snack, in fact we love to snack so much that the snack industry accounts for a large percentage of the food advertising dollars spent every year. Millions are spent to produce and advertise the snacks you love, but have you ever given a thought to how responsible the company that makes your snacks is? While global and environmental awareness is growing, it is only because we as consumers have demanded it and still for most large corporations it is the dollars they earn that are the main factor in the decisions they make.

What does this mean for you as a consumer buying snacks? That if you are concerned about the world around you, and want to buy snacks that that do not harm the environment, or the people that are affected by the manufacturing of your snack that you will want to do some research into the companies you want to purchase from.

Fortunately there are a growing number of companies that are socially responsible and strive to make their snacks in a way that does not hurt the environment and benefits people worldwide. The Kind Snacks company is an excellent example of this, first founded by Daniel Lubetzky this company worked to produce snacks that tasted good, are good for you, and good for the world around us. This company prides itself in being a not-only-for-profit business which means that they do not make their decisions based only on the financial bottom line but take into consideration the world around them as they do business.

With so many companies and only those that make the most money doing the larger share of advertising how do you find a company whose ethics align with yours and that the snacks you buy are produced in the best way possible? Perhaps the best way to do that is to check online with the companies themselves and with people that have studied or dealt with them. In the Internet age it is pretty hard for companies to hide behind their pretty packaging and big advertising budgets without someone blowing the whistle and letting everyone know what type of company they really are.

Be sure to read the packaging when you are at the store as well. Most companies that produce green and socially responsible snacks and other products are proud to announce this fact. You will want to look for statements such as those that let you know that packaging is from recycled or renewable materials, that the products is produced under fair trade standards, or as is the case with Kind Snacks, that the snacks are made from a not-just-for-profit company. Each company will have a different way of conveying their pride in their ethics and it should be easy to spot on the packaging.

Kind Snacks produces snacks that are not only socially responsible, but they taste great too. They have snack bars in a wide array of flavors that are packed with nuts, fruit, and other healthy ingredients.
