The best part of the cake for lots of folks (me included) is the frosting. Sometimes I just nibble on the cake, but I alwways finish the frosting. Traditionally the most popular frosting is cream. Vanilla, sugar and butter are the main ingredients in this type of frosting. This recipe has evolved over the years and cream cheese is being used as the main ingredient instead of cream in many cases.
Cream frosting is still a better alternative than cream cheese for many cakes and cupcakes as the two types of icing do have very different tastes. Certain kinds of cupcakes are best with regular cream frosting, in my own humble opinion.
Some cakes are best with a layer of cream cheese frosting. Two popular cakes that it is used with are carrot cakes and red velvet cakes. A variety of flavors can be added to it in order to change the taste and make it more suitable for a particular dessert.
Even though cream cheese frosting can be bought from the store in the can there is nothing like homemade icing. It is so quick and easy to make and it tastes so delicious and fresh. Preparation time is only ten to fifteen minutes. It is not an elaborate dish and does not even require cooking.
Practice and experience can come into play as the measurements of the ingredients can be altered according to personal tastes and what the frosting will be used for. Even tiny changes to what goes into your icing can affect how it tastes and how easy it is to put on your confections. To add decorations to the icing, refrigerate it for a few minutes to firm it up, or add extra powdered sugar. Small amount sof milk added to the mixture helps it to flow a little better- but go slow and stir well.
Frequent taste tests will be needed to be conducted to make sure your icing will go perfectly with the cake you’ve prepared. You can add a dash of lime to the icing to give it some zing, but if you add too much your guests will pucker.
Other flavorings you can add to your frosting besides vanilla could be maple or a tinge of peppermint extract, a little lemon extract, chocolate, coffee or coffee and chocolate for a mocha treat.
There are many possibilities for your cream cheese frosting creation. For example, cupcakes are the in thing at the moment and many flavors are perfect iced with cream cheese frosting. Therefore a colorful party idea would be to create lemon cupcakes with lemon cheese icing and bake your cupcakes in a yellow cupcake cup. If you can dream it, you can achieve it- use cream cheese frosting to spice up whatever you’re making for dessert.
