In the US alone about 1.5 Million are recorded to be kids that have gone missing. Teenagers has become the most common; either due to running away or the worst: kidnapped for due to an overly interest of someone.
For those who have noticed their child missing here are tips on what to do the in the first few 24 hours.
1. Report to the authorities what just happened. Make sure that your child becomes enlisted in the
missing persons list which is kept nationwide. Do not waste any time doing so.
2. See if the NBI can be part of the said investigation. This way the chances of having a wider search are more possible.
3. Do not touch anything in the child’s room. Also instruct the school not to do anything to his locker. At this point nothing in your house should be thrown, even your garbage. There are chances that your child may leave clues as to his where about or anything that your child may be in contact with. There may also be a problem with youth child that concerns the family which you are not aware of.
4. Make a list of all his friends and people who might have a clue as to his whereabouts. Visit them and make sure to inform the authorities about the said list. They may need this in the investigation.
5. Keep the number of investigators handling the case. Keep the contact on the safe place. Make sure to
get updates or give any new updates that may be significant to the investigation.
6. Describe your child to the authorities. Tell them what he was wearing the last time you saw him or
her or what the stuff that he or she may have with her. Also give details on any mark that may identify him or her like birthmarks or tattoos or mannerisms. It is also best to show a picture of the child to be sure both in black and white. Recent pictures can be good especially when media is involved.
7. List down all those suspicious persons in the neighborhood. They maybe people who may have shown over interest in your child or may be lurking suspiciously. This can be more effective if you could search criminal records on the data base of authorities to see if anyone of them is the one you just described.
8. Have one person answer the phone. Keep a pad next to the phone to take notes on who called or what the message was.
9. be strong. Don’t neglect your health. At this point you need strength in searching for your child. You still have so much background check to do just to see to it that your child is located.
