What is 4G?

Keeping up with the growing technology is indeed difficult with the speed at which it is expanding. Everything from coffee to the conferencing is on the go these days, and development in technology is the prime reason for it. 4G is one such technology that puts everything that is out there on the World Wide Web into the palms of the user, with clarity and speed that is undisputable.

4G is short for fourth generation wireless technology, which is a more evolved and improved version of its predecessors. The second and the third generation technologies enabled us to have the benefits of using the cell phone and limited data transferring abilities, which made communication a breeze. The 4G enables us to enjoy a very comprehensive mobile internet that is completely secure and fast. This high speed mobile internet literally puts world in one’s hands, with media streaming, gaming services, high speed internet access and much more enabled in a 4G compatible device.

The first generation systems were mainly analog in nature, which was later digitalized when second generation systems evolved. The third generation created a storm in the world of telecommunications, with its multi media capacity and up to 200 kbps of data transferring capacity.  The fourth generation system gets its hype from the tremendous improvements in terms of speed in the internet. Data transfer speeds are no longer measured in mere kbps anymore, but with 4G they can transfer data in speeds measured in Gigabytes. This makes it possible for the smart phones to have live flowing, online gaming and other great features that take mobility to a whole new level. 4G system is also more capable than its predecessors in a way that it has a greater bandwidth to do things better. Where 3G is slowed down by bandwidth restrictions, 4G is not limited by that and has endlessly expanding capabilities.

There are two standards to avail the 4G services these days and they are Long Term Evolution or LTE and Wide interoperability for microwave access or WiMAX. The communication is only through internet protocol systems, which makes it far more efficient than the other generations previous to it. 4G standards are more normalized so that the user gets connectivity across different carriers effortlessly. Peak data transfer rates ranging from 100Mbps to 1Gbps depending on the type of devices is the standard that the 4G technology has set. With 4G, the connectivity is not disturbed by change of carriers, and the handoffs are carried out without affecting the data transfers.  With the advent of 4G technology the possibilities that a hand held device can achieve is far greater than imaginable. Conference calls including video conferencing, or video chatting, streaming of live TV and much more can be done while commuting. Web pages can be displayed with amazing in high definition, irrespective of the device used. Everything including downloading favorite pictures can be done on the mobile phone. Where 3G made its mark in the world of telecommunications, 4G has exploited its fullest potentials and has room for further developments.
