Building Backlinks: Three Effective Ways to Building Quality Backlinks
One of the major factors that the search engines use to determine the placement of a web page in the search engine results pages (serps) is the number of links pointing back to said page. In fact obtaining links or backlinks as they are frequently called, has been the buzz in the internet marketing community for quite some time. In order for any webmaster to have their web page or site perform well in the serps, they will need to proactively build backlinks to their virtual properties.
How can you build backlinks:
There are plenty of methods for building quality backlinks, but I will address three that have withstood the test of time so to speak and still have a very positive effect on my websites.
Article marketing:
Article marketing is a good way to get back links. There are many websites and article directories that will allow you to submit an article with links pointing back to your site in the body of the article, in a resource or author’s bio box at the end of the article and in some cases in both places.
For years marketers used article marketing not only for a backlink but as a method of traffic generation as a few of the article directories would themselves rank in the serps very easily for your given keyword. The search engines (read poppa G) have since modified their algorithm and the article directories have since fallen out of the serps. The important thing to remember is that placing the article will still give you a valid back to your website, so all is not lost.
Commenting on blogs:
This is still a valid method of generating backlinks to your website as long as you follow some basic rules.
First rule is to read the post that you are commenting on. Sounds simple but you would be amazed at how many comments I receive on my blogs that are not relevant to the post. Obviosuly these comments are moderated right into the trash.
Second thing to remember is when leaving a comment, try and ask a smart relevant question of the author that will illicit a response OR leave a polite but controversial comment. I find that if you ask a question then your comment will approved and your questioned answered. When you take an opposing viewpoint then you have allowed for a dialogue with the author and other commenters of the blog and the authors love that. I especially like doing this where just about all of the blog readers kiss up to the author and agree with everything they say.
Squidoo and Hub pages:
These websites allow you to create web pages on their sites with links back to your site. However, just like the article directories that were affected by the algorithm change, these sites have themselves fallen out of the serps (as a result of prior algorithm changes) so they proactively moderate the pages that are created on their sites and reject those that are taboo topics or too salesy.
One way to use these is to actually provide some information on the page and just link back to your website without trying to actually sell anything. Remember we just want the link. If we happen to get any traffic, then we’ll consider that a bonus.
Backlinks are really easy to build, but it can be a tedious task. Especially when you’re trying to compete with webpages that have hundreds or thousands of backlinks. That’s why it’s important to automate the process as much as possible without losing the quality of the backlinks.
