Don’t be scared of test drives – they’re necessary

When taking the plunge into buying a new car one thing should strike as pretty obvious before handing over the dosh and getting it delivered – you want to know what it’s like to drive.

It seems obvious, but a large number of the automotive-buying public don’t actually take their potential new motor for a spin before preparing their garage for the arrival of their new lump of pride and joy. There are probably a few reasons – laziness, having far too much money for it to matter and time to name a few – but the underlying reason is usually because they don’t want to feel under pressure to buy from a salesman who is trying to hit his ‘Q3 targets’. It can be quite off-putting to say the least.

One of the best ways to combat men in suits and their potential holiday money is to order a test drive directly from the manufacturer to ensure that the process stays as official as possible and there’s no feeling of caving in when your spin around town comes to an all-too-soon end.

Organising a test drive directly from the marque themselves couldn’t be easier – take Volvo as an example. Simply visit the website, enter your details on the ‘test drive’ section and await a phone call from someone nice, maybe even Swedish, to politely ask when you would like to take one of their very pretty new cars out for a blast. It’s also quite a lot less likely that the car you’re testing isn’t two front ends welding together – which is always a bonus.

It couldn’t be simpler, so get cracking.
