Should I go for a sporty saloon?

Saloon cars can quite often be mistaken for stuffy boxes full of electronic toys to keep middle management types entertained at the weekends. To an extent this is a bit true, but over the past few years there has been more and more sporty saloon cars have been released and a lot of them are very good – not to mention – not very stuffy.

The sporty saloon provides the opportunity to indulge your desire for up-market saloon features in a car whilst maintaining a little bit of sartorial elegance about proceedings. There’s many on the market at the moment but one to really look out for is the Volvo S60. A Volvo, I hear you cry! Yes, don’t be mistaken in to thinking that all Volvos are driven by men in acid-wash denim and beards on their way to the tip, no, Volvos are now good machines that drive well and even have bags of style to boot. Especially the S60.

Volvo’s new design direction is quickly erasing memories of the Swedish manufacturer’s boxy bore-mobiles of yesteryear and quickly replacing them with thoughts of looking people actually thinking we’re cool because we’re driving one – impressive considering their reputation in the 90s and even early noughties.

The S60 is certainly testament to that, with sleek lines, an aggressive front end and vibrant colour options to choose from. And engine options aren’t in short supply, either. Varying from 1.6-litre petrol turbo to a 2.4-litre turbodiesel, the S60 offers enough oomph if that’s what you’re looking for, or, go for the diesel version, and you’ll have slightly longer between trips to the pumps. Either way you’ll look great doing it.
