Long Term Care for Women Needs Better Considerations
There is a great concern regarding the need for long term care for women because it turns out that most women who should be getting proper medical care and attention do not have the chance of doing so due to lack of personal funds or savings and not owning an Long term care insurance policy.
Based on some statistics, women have a longer life span than those of men. Some of them even reach the age of 85, which needs special and additional treatment and attention from the medical workers. But sadly, not all women can afford an LTC insurance plan to cover all their health needs in the future simply because they are too busy with their jobs and with managing their respective families.
Because of the fact that their attention is more focused on their families, they tend to resign or quit their jobs if the need for it arises. They are the ones who will sacrifice everything just to be able to serve her family and other loved ones. Unfortunately, not all of them receive such care and attention when the time comes that they need someone’s help to make them last the day.
More women suffer from illnesses and diseases brought about by old age such as Alzheimer’s. Not all people may cope and may have the patience and skills to take care of the persons who have this kind of disease. It takes a professional and trained medical worker to be able to give the proper care that this disease requires.
It is impossible to have long term care for women especially if they, themselves, are not aware of the consequences that old age and being alone in life might bring them. They usually prioritize the needs of their family, most specifically of their children, before they do something for themselves. As a result, the need for LTC policy is taken for granted and neglected.
Admit it or not, they sometimes hope that their children would take care of them when they are no longer able to carry themselves and may be too weak to accomplish even the easiest tasks that they have easily done before. But the truth is, their children will then be busy with their respective jobs and might also be attending to the needs of their own families to even consider helping them eat, bathe, or walk.
Women make up almost 75 percent of the total population of a nursing home facility and they also comprisethe majority, 72 percent to be exact, of those persons who are aged 85 and above. This only proves that above anyone else, women have the highest need to receive LTC services and to benefit from the perks that LTC insurance policies offer.
In order to lessen the number of women who do not receive proper care and attention due to lack of money, it would be better if as early as now, while they have stable financial resources, they start planning and inquiring about the services and other benefits that they can get from a long term care for women.
