Melbourne Personal Trainers Top 3 Secrets Why You’re Not Losing fat
Melbourne Personal Trainer Andrew Read has worked in the fitness industry for almost twenty years. In that time he has seen it all – from machine weights to Zumba – what he has realized is there aren’t many people who really understand personal training.
With the nature of the fitness industry being so fickle – based seemingly on entertainment more than effectiveness – it is hard to pinpoint exact problems. But here is his list of his Top 3 Reasons You’re Not Losing Fat!
1. You’re trainer is inexperienced.
Would you take your car to an apprentice mechanic? Would you allow an intern to operate on you?
The reality is that most new personal trainers only have a few months experience. And with how complex and individual the human body is it takes years of experience to be able to recognize what to do when.
Not only that, but with more and more people needing rehabilitation based training these days your trainer needs an intimate knowledge of functional anatomy as well as progressions of exercise to take you from rehabilitation to integration to performance based training. Knowledge like that is simply slow to learn. You’re certainly not going to learn it in a few short weeks like most personal training courses are designed over.
2. You’re eating the wrong food.
Losing weight is a tough game. You need to stay focused 24/7 on what to eat, how much to eat and even when to eat. For many, this part alone proves their downfall – simply not having the ability to stick to their eating plan for the lengths of time necessary to achieve the desired results.
This ties back into the experience of your trainer too. A good, seasoned trainer will guide you every step of the way. Outlining what the necessary actions are to achieve your goals. Without this clear action plan, and a method of accountability you will not succeed. Because no matter how good the plan is, if you don’t take responsibility for the fuel you are putting in your body then you aren’t going to make substantial changes.
Along with the fitness industry, the diet and nutrition field is laden with heavy promises that are seldom delivered. Not wanting to go into the history of cover-ups, poor research and political grandstanding that has created today’s mess the simple truth is that what you are being told to eat is wrong!
In it’s simplest terms anything that is processed is a bad choice if trying to lose weight. The manufacturing process robs a lot of food of its goodness and makes it quickly absorbable by the body leading to a large chance of storing it as fat.
The smartest way to eat is to eat like our cave man ancestors did in every meal –
• High quality meat, poultry, fish and eggs.
• Fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables.
• Nuts, seeds and berries as snacks.
• Lots of water.
It can’t get much simpler than that. Not only will you avoid the chemical cocktail of preservatives and additives that are even in “healthy” or “fat free” food choices but you’ll feel better and have better energy levels.
And that’s on top of how you will feel once your pants start getting loose!
3. You’re training the wrong way.
Given most of us sit down all day for work and then sit down more travelling to and from work, do we really need to spend time sitting down trying to get fitter?
Sitting is one of the most damaging things we can do to our lower back, yet the fitness industry has spent decades designing and selling us machines that force us to do exactly that. Not only does this place our spine in a dangerous position but it goes against the way we were designed to move. Our body is meant to connect to the ground with our feet, link our body together via our core and then use the power of our upper body to accomplish tasks. Sitting down disengages an entire half of our body and forces the body to work from a point of little sensory feedback as we have no connection to the ground (which is the start of our body figuring out how to hold the body optimally for us to do things).
Not only that, but the body is not a system of isolated parts. At no time does the body ever say to itself, “Now I will be strong” and in five minutes time say, “Now I will be fit”. Instead it moves freely using the muscles to be strong, supple, fast and enduring all at the same time. It takes feedback from the ground and portions out force to various areas of the body so that we can use as much strength as needed while doing athletic tasks.
The real world is made up of numerous daily challenges that are both strength and fitness based. Things like carrying the shopping from the car, or mowing the lawn require a blend of both abilities. Separating them in training to work on strength and then work on fitness by moving onto a treadmill just goes against everything you’ve been designed to do!
So what should you do?
Smart educated trainers all over the world have found the answer. It comes in the form of a three hundred year old cannonball with a handle from Russia called a kettlebell.
Since being vaguely known over the last hundred years – mostly in pictures of circus strongmen using them – the kettlebell has become widely popular again, and rightly so. US based company Dragon Door and Pavel Tsatsouline have combined forces to create the world’s leading kettlebell instruction – the Russian Kettlebell Certification (RKC).
The RKC is at the forefront of this type of integrated, functional fitness training and prides itself on both results based training as well as safety. Kettlebell training, done the RKC way, has been shown to burn as much as 1600 calories per hour in studies – that’s an awful lot of fat to burn up, doubling the effect of running!
Melbourne personal trainer Andrew Read has been leading the RKC path in Australia for some time now and his Moorabbin based personal training business is booming – because people are getting in shape FAST!!
Combining his decades of training experience, a sound diet plan that is easy to follow and brings results along with kettlebell training he has deeply impacted the lives of those who seek out his expert training to help lose fat fast.
