Things to Consider in Creating Invitations

Do you need invitations for your child’s party? If you are in Dallas, your best bet would be to go to commercial printers, choose from among their many templates, submit your child’s photo, and you are good to go, as long as you have the dough to pay for what you ordered, that is.

But if a commercial printing shop is much too pricey for you or its minimum order is too much for you only need a few, then you might want to do the party invitations yourself. After all, it is not too hard. And that is, if you want to keep things simple.

The easiest and most common way to do the invitations would be to have them printed on photo paper. And if ever there is a minimum order at the photo lab, it would probably be just 10 copies, so it is really reasonable because for sure you would need that much even for a small party.

Now doing the party invitations yourself at is relatively easy to make. If you have a desktop or a laptop computer then most probably you have some design software installed there. The best thing to use would be Adobe Photoshop because then you can be more flexible in your designs.

The most common photo print designs are 3R (3.5” x 5”), 4R (4” x 6”), and 5R (5” x 7”). You can easily set your layout in Photoshop to these sizes. Or you can opt for the 5R and then have two layouts in it. You can just cut the 5R sheet in the middle. You could easily do that because Adobe Photoshop enables you to have flexibility in your design. Just make sure that your layout, whatever its size, is in 300 dpi so that the image will be sharp and clear during printing.

Choose party theme. For example, you may want Strawberry Shortcake for your darling daughter. You can use a simple pink background and put borders. Then find images of Strawberry Shortcake from the internet. You can find many stock-free images of this well-loved character from different sites. Choose the ones with high resolutions and copy them one by one. You can then paste them on your layout.

Put in your child’s photo, name, and the details of the party. You can stylize your fonts and match the colors to the party’s theme. The design will really depend on your creativity and imagination. Like if you want, you can put your child’s face in place of Strawberry Shortcake so that it looks like she is wearing the Shortcake costume. Just don’t forget all the pertinent details of the party. You might get too excited with the design that you might forget the venue, time, date, and birthday registry.

Save your layout in .JPG format and save it as a big file. That way, the resolution is very high and when it is printed, the image will be really sharp and the colors vivid. Put your file in a thumb drive and you are good to go to the photo lab in order to have your invitations printed.

If you don’t want to use the photo paper for your invitations, you can still go to a commercial printer and have them print your design in a nice paper. It is just that with printing shops you will have to abide by their minimum order requirements. So it is really up to you.
