Xavier Thoma Practices Bikram Yoga

Synthesized from traditional yoga techniques, Bikram Yoga was started by Bikram Choudhury. It is an alternative form of yoga that became popular in early 1970’s. It involves a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Each sessions runs for exactly 90 minutes and is practiced in a room heated to 105°F. This alternative form of yoga includes two processes i.e. extension and compression, which help in improving blood circulation. The two processes involved in it are known for fresh blood to every joint, muscle, and organ within the human body. While performing a particular posture, the practitioner stretches or compresses a certain part of the body, this thus temporarily cuts off circulation, which ultimately causes the heart to pump more blood in reaction to the shortage.

Pumping fresh blood in excess is called extension. Once the posture is complete, the new oxygenated blood rejuvenates the arteries that were being compressed. Some of the postures involved in Bikram Yoga massage the lymphatic system and help in lymphatic drainage and eliminating infection, bacteria, and toxins from the body. Born in 1974 in Belgium, Xavier Thoma is a successful professional based in the UK. He has been practicing asthanga yoga since 1995 and has taken up Bikram yoga in 2009, at the Bikram Soho studio. He practices this yoga at least 2-3 times a week, and seeks out the de-stressing that it offers, as well as body re-alignment. Xavier Thoma finds that he is a lot more energised after a session, has a clearer mind and is able to sleep better.
