One day trip to Kochi
Kochi, known as the queen of Arabian Sea, is located on the west coast of India in the state of Kerala. A bustling metropolis, Kochi is the financial nerve centre of Kerala and the suburb of Kochi is home to a number of industries. From a perspective of tourists this place is blessed with abundant beauty of nature.
The Hill Palace, located 16km east of Cochin in Tripunithura, has been converted into a museum displaying a fine collection of articles of the Rajas of Kochi. The Dutch Palace (Mattancherry Palace) palace has a fine collection of mural paintings depicting scenes from the Hindu epics. It was originally built by the Portuguese.
The Jewish synagogue located near the Dutch Palace in Mattancherry is magnificently decorated by Chinese tiles and Belgian chandeliers. St. Francis Church is the oldest church where the Portuguese trader Vasco da Gama who discovered India was buried here. Vasco house which is located on Rose Street is one of the oldest Portuguese houses in India.
The whole stretch of the coast along Fort Kochi and Vypeen are dotted with Chinese fishing nets. The Bolgotty Island has a tiny golf course and the panoramic views of the port and the harbour, makes it an attractive picnic spot. Vypeen Island, one of the tiny islands just off the mainland, has a lovely beach called Cherai beach ideal for swimming. Vypeen Island can be reached by land or by boat.
The bustling backwaters, dotted with fishing boats, speedboats, ships, tankers and passenger boats, can be observed from the Marine Drive that lines the coast. Willingdon Island is a man-made island where the Airport, Sea port and the railway terminus (Cochin Harbour Terminus) are situated.
The other tourist attractions are the Pallipuram Fort on Vypeen Island, Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary near High court, Museum of Kerala history at Kalamassery, Parikshith Thampuran Museum etc. Kids and adults alike can enjoy the fun and activities at Veega Land which is the South India’s largest amusement park situated 14kms from Cochin.
