Box Living trumps House Building Companies

Dan Heyworth and brother-in-law Nat Holloway came to New Zealand in 2003, and were surprised by the standard of housing. “When we got here the quality of houses was not what we were used to,” says Heyworth.

The brothers-in-law were not impressed by the quality of home builders and what house building companies were building, so setup their business, Arhaus, and have since started Box Living (www.BoxLiving.co.nz).

Box Living offers a mixture of custom architectural design whilst also promoting prefab homes nz. This makes the end result unbelievably cheap with the modules combined to make custom spaces fit for any plot of land.

Box Living offers Kiwis the ability to have an architecturally designed house, but with much more certainty on costs and project completion. There is no longer the need for big budgets when you want to build a home – Box Living is a more efficient, cost-effective way but still retaining that architectural input.

Given time, it’s likely that Box Living will be one of New Zealand’s biggest home builders and whilst positioned at the higher end of the house builders market, the offering is still available to much of New Zealand because of the prefabrication aspect lowering the total cost.

The Box Living style is modernist, retaining lots of light whilst also being simple and elegant. Internationally renowned architects were considered and influences taken and this has already seen awards coming their way. The Residential Architectural Excellence Awards for 2010 saw Box Living’s entry of their recently built modular-concept home in Muriwai come highly commended.

“Compared to a custom-designed home, the Box Living option can reduce construction costs by a third to a half”, says Dan Heyworth.

Dan Heyworth is General Manager of Box Living. He has been involved in House Building Companies and House Builders NZ plus also being involved in architecture and construction prior to moving to New Zealand, whilst based in the UK.
