Corbett national park was named after the legendary English man named Jim Corbett who was born and brought up in India and had only visited England once. During that time, there was British rule in India and Jim Corbett was the man who saved the people from the deadly attack of the beast of Champawat which had killed 436 people in early life. He killed this tiger and another 18. He actively participated in hunting till year 1937 but there was a change of heart during later years and he talked about tiger preservation.
