Issues Surrounding the Need for Long Term Care for Women
Women are one of the strong foundations of our society. There are women in almost all industries and careers that were once dominated by men, making it obvious that women nowadays are of equal standing and level as that of men. But sadly, it seem that the need for more extensive and better long term care for women is taken for granted, leaving more elder women suffer from old age and acquired illnesses.
It is found out that the majority of the population in nursing home facilities is composed of women mainly because of the fact that women live longer than men. This predicament also shows that more women are more prone to have diseases and illnesses brought about by old age, and that they need extra and careful medical treatment and attention to address their health issues.
It is quite saddening that after many years of serving their families and loved ones, these women will have to endure the burden of being sick and weak without proper medical aid and treatment. This is now happening particularly to those who were not able to acquire LTC insurance policies for themselves when they were younger and have stable financial resources to fund their monthly premiums.
Many women, even if they consists the majority of population in adult day care facilities, do not own any LTC insurance plan to support their future LTC needs and make use of the facilities that their health condition requires.
Long term care for women are often taken for granted, first, because of its expensive monthly premiums, and secondly, because these women somehow hope that after so many years of loving and taking care of their loved ones, they would also get the same kind of treatment, care, and attention that they have given them.
Truth hurts but if you look at this kind of situation, you cannot blame the children or other family members of these women because they also have to attend to their own families’ needs plus the fact that they have busy work schedules that keep them away from their home to take care of their mother, or any other elder woman in their family.
This is why as early as now, women must also realize that they too, have needs. They should realize that in order for them to have a better life and also to spare their loved ones of being responsible to take care of them, they have to purchase an LTC insurance policy so that they do not have to worry of what awaits them in the future anymore.
Some organizations and other private institutions are pushing for more benefits and considerations so that more women can qualify and avail of insurance policies. If these demands are granted, women will definitely have more reasons to be encouraged and eventually buy such policies.
Even though there is still a need for more effort and programs so that long term care for women will no longer be an issue, women, and their families alike, should start discussing these matters and be open-minded in the idea of having someone else to take care of them to fully receive the right treatment, attention, and medical care that they need.
