Since the cellular activity is high in their body, when your children reach five years, the calories requirements in their body are increased. Hence, you can add more whole grains or enriched cereals in their diet. The food items contained high fat like skimmed milk, and concentrated sweets should be avoided. However, there is no problem if you prefer grilled and foods. In this age, since there is an increase in muscular development in children, enough protein is needed in their body. So, you have to give protein rich items like milk, egg and meat.
Another important matter you should keep in mind while you feed your children is that the requirements for essential amino acids are higher in this age. Similarly, the food items enriched with vitamins and minerals are also necessary. As the insufficiency of calcium may badly effects the bones in children, you can give include milk, ragi, green vegetables and fish, which contain sufficient calcium, in your children’s diet.
There are some basic principles which you can easily follow to improve your children’s health. It’s not a good habit to feed your children forcibly, because, it may make them the habit of gluttony. You need to always discourage nibbling habits of your children in between meals. The last and important principle to keep your children healthy is that you allow them to play games out door, which will help to increase their appetite.
