Ford Transit Most Stolen Van
Commercial vehicle users are being warned about potential scams facing them following a recent study by HPI (Hire Purchase Information). The information affects not only vehicle owners, but also potential buyers.
The research shows that the Ford Transit tops the list of most stolen light commercial vehicle, accounting for 17.6% of all thefts, and is closely followed by the Land Rover. Third and fourth on the list were the Mercedes Sprinter and the Volkswagen Transporter, which both accounted for 11.8% of thefts.
As well as owners being warned to beware of the thefts, this information also affects potential buyers, as thieves may be looking to sell on the stolen vehicles to unsuspecting customers. Buying a stolen van could mean that the buyer loses the van and any money paid if the vehicle’s past is uncovered and it is returned to the vehicle’s legal owner. It could also mean that that the vehicle purchased is potentially dangerous. For a fee, however HPI, can conduct a history check on any used vehicle.
A HPI check will eliminate any worries a potential buyer may have as it will check the vehicle’s history and highlight any areas that may require investigating. This will include whether the vehicle has any outstanding finance agreement, whether the number plate has been changed or whether the vehicle has ever been involved in an accident. Shockingly, one in sixteen vans is likely to have been involved in an accident, and possibly even written off by insurers. One in seven still have outstanding finance agreements to settle.
A HPI check is recommended for any buyers looking to buy a second hand light commercial vehicle, including Volkswagen and Ford Vans. Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester buyers are able to check the history of any vehicle using a HPI check.
