Consulate And Embassy – What’s The Difference Between Them?
Embassy and Consulate are often regarded for the same meaning by the most of the people, but it is not true. Such two different words stand for two different meaning and also assigned for different purposes. A consulate can be defined in terms of small official office of the country in other countries, where as Embassy is the main office of the country that is often located in the capital city of the country.
Consulates are assigned to work as a junior embassy and deal with the passport queries that comes form their own citizens. Besides that consulates, located in major or tourist cities, are also supposed to look after the minor diplomatic tasks in terms of issuing visas and several other things. Moreover, it also deals to build a strong relation between two countries by making bi-lateral relationship and fostering the trade and expatriates.
Apart from consulates, embassies, the word derived from French embassy, are established by one country in others in order to hold the strong relation and also make its presence in that country. Today, every country has established its embassies in the world that are engaged to make a better deal with host countries. Embassies are controlled by the ambassadors, appointed by central government of the country, represent the country. Besides that it plays an intermediary role between two countries by working as a spokesperson of the country and discloses the government’s decision over several issues.
Ambassadors are also concerned for solving several administrative tasks like consulates, but they are more concerned for developing the strong relation with the two countries and exchange the technologies and communication. However, it is established for several other purposes as well, for instance we can take example of United State’s embassy in Taiwan that is not established to look after the overseas citizens, in fact it served the purpose of maintaining the strong diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
India has established its embassies and consulates in all over the world to maintain the strong and bi-lateral relationship with the countries that certainly foster the step of globalization and quite needed for development. Besides that several countries also appoint Consulate General, quite necessary for a bigger consulate as they have wide horizon and to deal with the lots of things comparatively the smaller one. People, who are assigned to work in consulates, are known as consulate officers. Moreover, a consul general is appointed to run the consulate properly and serve its purpose in the best possible manner.
