Top Nine Packing Tips
When going on a trip, most people don’t really know how to pack suitcases properly. As a matter of fact, many would try to fit two weeks worth of clothing in their luggage just for a weekend trip. For others, they seem to pack everything else except for the most important things like their travel papers (passport, etc.) and medicines. It is time to be a savvy traveler and know what you really need to pack for that specific trip. Here are packing tips you’ll find really useful:
. When packing clothes, don’t fold them individually because they’ll just crease when they get compressed. It is better to roll your clothes (especially when it comes to skirts, pants and sports shirts); fold them together; or to bundle them together. For your delicate items, use tissue paper when packing them. Just lay it face down and put some tissue paper on top. Then fold it up (the tissue paper should be inside). As you fold the item, use additional tissue paper layers. This way, the item gets completely wrapped with tissue paper. Obviously, this method is only easy the first time. It becomes a tedious task when you keep repacking. So just use this approach for clothes you don’t want to get crushed like your evening gown, etc.
. If you’ll be traveling by plane, you shouldn’t pack gel or liquid substances in your carry-on. You can only do this if they’re in individual 3oz. containers and enclosed in a clear, quart-size plastic zip-top bag. For larger liquid and gel containers, these can only be packed in your checked luggage.
. Know the size and number of bag restrictions in airports. There is a maximum size and number you can bring on your flight. Most airlines charge fees for every checked bag, including those which lowered the maximum permitted weight limit.
. Only lock your checked bags using TSA-approved locks. If it happens that your bag gets selected for random screening, they will be forced to break the lock just to check inside.
. Don’t overpack your bag. If your bag gets selected for inspection, screeners will just have a hard time closing it. This can lead to potential losses or wrinkles in your clothing.
. Screening equipment can damage undeveloped film so make sure you carry all your film with you onboard.
. Put your packed belongings that you don’t feel comfortable strangers handling them in clear plastic bags.
. Don’t stack books as well as other document on top of one another. Just spread them out all over your bag.
. Always have a must-pack list for your personal items (including your toiletries and medicines). This can be very handy for your succeeding trips.
