The Future of Discount Vouchers
With the current economic downturn, companies on the high street and online are becoming more desperate for new business. With so many retailers shutting up shop in recent years, more and more retail giants are offering better deals in order to attract custom. With student discounts, loyalty schemes and voucher codes, it’s becoming easier to find a bargain on the high street, and easier still to find a deal online.
Most large online retailers (along with some smaller ones) place a little box on the checkout screen where you can place a discount code – usually found by trawling through search engines and forums, often yielding no results. Some sites exist only to offer these discount codes, but they are difficult to find.
Searching for a deal online does not necessarily result in an online purchase at all – recent years have seen a sharp rise in the trend of “discount sites” – that is, websites offering deals you can cash in at another shop – sort of like an online voucher book. Whilst some of these sites offer codes to be used to get money off online retailers, since they offer only a small string of numbers there isn’t a great deal of prospect for earnings in this field.
More popular are discount sites that allow you to print out vouchers for use on the high street. Some of these sites offer you the deals for free, and make money through advertising on the site, or sometimes on commission. With the advent of email and smart phones, discount sites will often email you with a message to display to the cashier at the store you are visiting in order to receive your discount. This obviously saves on paper costs for the customer, and allows the site to display two sets of adverts instead of one – one on their website and one on the email the customer receives.
So what does the future hold for discount vouchers? Discounts on your mobile device (phone, for example) are obviously going to be big, and companies are finding new and innovative ways to reach their potential customers. Proximity marketing allows companies to reach customers’ mobile devices whenever they are within a certain range of their stores, increasing customers’ awareness of their products and services without any effort on the consumer’s part. This means that companies can attempt to entice customers into their stores whilst guaranteeing that the deals they are offering can be viewed, whilst customers can receive a great deal without having to search for one.
There are always new ways to get discount vouchers for your favourite products. You can get daily deals straight to your mobile.
