How to Overcome Obstacles In Photography Lighting

One of the most important and indispensable aspect of photography is lighting. A photographer cannot do without studio lighting and this is more than just fact. One cannot rely only upon natural lights like that of the sun and the moon to get the wonders that we often get to see in the glossy pages of magazines. While taking personal photographs like that when in vacation and elsewhere, people can take some factors for granted. But in case of professional photography especially for advertisement of products one cannot take that liberty. Slightest deviation in the desired picture can result in making very expensive mistakes. It therefore becomes essential for to consider a number of obstacles and tend to them accordingly to get the best pictures.

For beginners in photography, one of the first obstacles to get introduced to is back lighting. Back lighting refer to the object being placed in front of the source of light. This is the most common mistake that young photography enthusiasts make. Back lighting results in only the silhouette formation only. No details of the object to be photographed can be captured through back lighting. If there is no other option but to take the picture in that location only one can make use of flash lighting to balance the effect. Back lighting however, can have both advantages and disadvantages. If one wants to capture beautiful silhouettes, this can be the best form of photography lighting.

The second obstacle in lighting that a photographer usually faces is harsh lights. When a light is too bright, like the afternoon sun, all the colors, especially the soft shades seem to wash out. The shadows in the background are also too dark and obvious. These are undesirable factors that contribute to bad photos. One can avoid this obstacle by waiting for the sun the start setting and the lights to become softer and then begin the shoot. If the object to be photographed is movable then, moving it to a shade before taking the picture can result in better effects. Same can be said about dim lighting. Like lights that are too bright, photography in dim lights can also result in sub standard photos. Using flash and other forms of lighting under such circumstances can be a good idea.

Another obstacle to photography as far as lighting is concerned, is side lighting. This happens when the source of light is at the side of the object as a result of which, only one side gets illuminated while the other remains in comparative darkness. If one is interested in fake spirit photography, this kind of photography lighting can add to the mystery in the image. If not, then it will only result in annoying the photographer with badly done photos. Photographers should also be aware that indoor lights can have negative effects on the color of the pictures. With over exposure to such lights the picture may get a yellowish appearance. New photography enthusiasts can begin their venture keeping all these lighting related obstacles in mind for achieving better results.
