The Holy City of Amritsar in Punjab India
Amritsar is located in the northwestern part of India and situated in the state of Punjab. It is the city which is known for its several spiritual places. It is also denoted by the name of “The Pool of Immortality”. It is the city founded in 1577 by the fourth guru of Sikhs Guru Ram Dass. Amritsar is the place which is remembered by the people for the incidents took place of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 1919 under the British rule. Amritsar is the most familiar for its commercial activities. Amritsar is the home of the Golden Temple, which is also called as Harmandir Sahib.
It was believed that the founder of the city, Guru Ram Das had first begun building Santokhsar Sarovar, which is near to the village of Sultanwind. Afterwards, He built his residence and moved to its place. At that time he was known by the name of Guru da Chakk afterwards it was changed as Chakk Ram Das. Before the name of the city was sarovar but later it was denoted as Amritsar. The first stone of the foundation of the Darbar Sahib is said to have been laid by Sain Mian Mir Sahib, a Muslim saint from Punjab, at Guru Arjun Dev’s request.
What to See
Golden Temple: It is the one of the holiest shrine in the city of Amritsar. It is the gold plated Gurudwara glitters in the middle of its holy pool like a giant bullion bar and a one of the tourist attraction place. It is also denoted by the name of Hari Mandir Sahib or some in Punjab people use to say it as Darbar Sahib.
Jallianwala Bagh: Very near to the Golden Temple, there is one of the poignant park which now also dedicated to those Indians who were killed by the British authority in 1919. Some of the bullet marks are still visible here.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama: It is the place which is also known by Ram Bagh. It is the park which is dedicated to the “Lion of the Punjab”.
Mata Temple: It is another most famous place and the holiest place in Amritsar. There is a cave in the temple which is dedicated to the female saint Lal Devi.
Sri Durgiana Temple: It is the temple dedicated to the Goddess Gurga. It is the temple of 16th century surrounded by the holy water tank. It is the Hindu version of the Golden Temple.
How to Reach:
The nearest airport in the city is known as Amritsar. It is the airport which provides the several cheap flights facilities from almost all the cities and countries. Flight booking travel agents are selling cheap air tickets to Amritsar widely. The nearest railhead here is Amritsar railway station. There are several trains running from and to Amritsar at most affordable times.
