Looking for a sporty saloon? Look no further
Sporty saloons are good things. On one hand you get to look all important because of its shape and general road presence and, on the other hand, it goes like a mentalist so you can get away from people that may not be so keen on your success.
So what should you go for? That’s difficult. There’s been a lot of talk recently about the new BMW M5, and what a handsome car it is. The fifth generation saloon, due to hit the Middle East in November, combines gorgeous looks, more horses than a Victorian stable and the sophistication of a luxurious business saloon in one superb package.
The five-seater is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 delivering 560bhp between 6,000 to 7,000rpm and a whopping 680Nm of torque from just 1,500rpm. This means, like most Ms, it’s fabulously fun. It hits 0-60mph in just 4.4seconds and tops out at a limited 155mph.
Inside, it’s as you would expect an M to be – essentially a bachelor flat on very fast wheels. The M sport seats are wrapped in Merino leather while the roof liner is covered in Anthracite (whatever that is). Lovely.
But that’s the future. What should you go for if you are desperate for a sporty saloon right now? There’s a lot on offer, but surprisingly enough, Volvo’s S60 is hitting all the right notes with punters at the moment.
With it’s superb looks, top-notch specs and performance to rival much more expensive business racers it has a lot going for it. Inside you’ll find sporty moulded seats, a front view camera and a very good-looking centre console.
Outside, the car means business with beautifully sleek lines, an aggressive front end and slick looking alloys.
At around £25,000 it’s a lot cheaper than and M5 as well. And you still get to look important.
