Jaguar XK – the GT with the soul of a true sports car
Jaguar is a company that requires little introduction. As the maker of some of the most iconic, not to mention beautiful, cars of the last 70 years, the British firm is held in truly high regard with people who appreciate automotive tradition and beauty.
Of course, when talking about Jaguar it’s almost impossible not to mention how much of an impact the E-Type had on influencing the classic coupe shape as we know it today, but Jaguar has never been a company to rest on its laurels thinking it has achieved what it came out to do.
As producers of many-a-brilliant sports car of the last half century it’s difficult to pin down perhaps what has been their greatest creation, but the current version of the XK is probably as close to perfection as a GT sports car can get.
With its long nose, short body and imposing road presence, the XK possesses looks that can put cars at twice the money to shame. And then some.
But looks can only get you so far. All mouth and no trousers is fine if you’re planning on driving to the shops once a week, but if you’re looking for the ultimate driving pleasure you’re going to need something that can move as brilliantly as it looks.
Fortunately, the XK has enough fire down the front of its trousers to propel you towards the horizon at a furious pace.
GT cars often look great whoever the manufacturer, but few having a racing heart and sports car handling that can make much smaller cars look like they oversteer all over the place.
If you just so happen have £65,000 to burn on something that is going to give you years of genuine excitement, you’d be foolish not to at least consider the beautiful XK.
