Last snatches of sun – If we’re very lucky, we’ll have an Indian Summer this year in the UK, with practically more sunny days in late September and early October than the summer months. A seasonal vantage point – Autumn is a lovely season in the garden. The light, albeit fading, is beautiful, the changing colours of the leaves create a different look and feel to the garden each week, and there’s the cozy smell of bonfires in the air. Nature watch from your own backyard – There is a huge amount going on in the natural world at this time of year, from the first rumblings of hibernation to mass bird migration. The practical friend of the gardener – Of course it’s not all sitting about in the garden at this time of year, there’s plenty of jobs for the gardener to be getting on with. From dealing with the first autumnal dew, to picking the last crop of tomatoes, the humble picnic bench is a great practical friend of the gardener. Use it as a base for all your gardening tools while you’re in the middle of jobs and save your back by doing any repotting or taking of cuttings while comfortably seated.
