Moon Chairs – A Confession or just a Weird Attraction?

I’m a “mooner”. yes, that is right, a mooner. Before you begin dreaming up ideas of a drug crazed hippy vagary, let me explain. While I have an addiction of sorts, my preferences are perfectly above board. And, I am here right now to confess it to you and everyone. yup. I am a mooner.

I thoroughly enjoy moon chairs. Always have. It all began when good ol’ Aunt Abby purchased me my first kids moon chair. It was a fantastic furry moon chair (fuzz was greatly favored in the seventies ) and it was sooooo plush. It was a navy blue moon chair. Back in the day, there were two colors to choose from, really. moonchairs for girls were pink. Moon chairs for boys were blue. How traditional, eh? Anyway, I loved the moon chair. I would sleep and eat and watch TV in it on our vintage black and white TV. I also had my first kiss in that wonderful Papasan moon chair.

Anyway, time passed on and that old moonchair just wore out. By the time I left for college, it was time to throw that trusty spherechair into the rubbish pile and purchase a new one. Now, some people have difficulty saying good bye to their pets when they leave this world. Well, let me tell you, I just burst out balling when the waste management men unceremoniously tossed my old trusty moon chair into the back of the garbage truck. It just seemed like an Irish wake was the only way to complete a proper send off. So, I stole some Jack Daniels from my parent’s liquor closet, walked up the hill behind my home and tied on a good one.

So, I was shopping for my college dorm room when I found a black moon chair. I did not see it at first, but the moon chair had an Oakland Raider’s logo on the front. Now, growing up in the nineteen seventies meant that, as a boy, I was a Raiders fanatic. Stabler, Belitnkoff, Branch, Casper, Hubbard.. What an offense. That’s the same team Upshaw and Shell played on. Anyway, I simply had to get this black moonchair with logo and everything! This was not just a kids moon chair. It was a party machine moonchair! It sure did survive an a crazy number of parties. People would go so far as to play drinking games simply to determine who would sit in the throne moon chair known as “old blacky” – our so endearing moniker for the black moonchair.

Later in life, I purchased a domicile. I always wanted a “cool” rec room. So, the first thing I did to decorate the home was. yes, ya guessed it. I bought two childrens moonchairs for my kids and two adult moon chairs for my wife and me. The childrens moon chairs are hot pink and royal blue. The moonchairs for adults are a navy blue. It is a perfect rec room, complete with mood lighting, pool table, juke box and four Papasan moonchairs!

I can hardly wait to have grandchildren. yes, it is still in the distant future, but I am looking forward to giving my grandchildren to moonchairs. There are so many wonderful childrens moon chairs on the market today. Children’s moonchairs have pictures of famous cartoon heros sewn into the cushion. You can purchase Disney moon chairs, Cars moon chairs, Dora the Explorer, Diego Moon chairs and many more! The grandkids are going to love me!
