The Land of Heaven in Haryana in India
Kurukshetra is the district located in the Haryana, a state of India. It is also called by the name of “The Land of Gita”. This land is dedicated to the Lord Krishna. In Haryana, Kurukshetra is the place which is famous for its religious and holiest values. It is also depicted by the name of Dharmakshetra. It is also written is Puranas that Kurukshetra is named after the King Kuru who was the predecessor of Kauravas and Pandavas, depicted in the epics of Mahabharata.
The importance of the place is credited to the fact that the Kurukshetra War of Mahabharata was fought on this ground. According to the Hindus, this is also the fact that the well holiest and well prayed holy book Shrimad Bhagawad Gita was preached here only during the war when Arjun was in dilemma between Dharm and Karma..
According to the Hindus, Lord Brahma created the universe here. It is situated on the banks of River Saraswati. In Hindu epics there is a Purana which is known as Vamana Purana. This Purana depicts that how the name Kurukshetra discovered and how the place becomes heaven. The King Kuru chose this place for embedding spirituality with 8 virtues. These are austerity, truth, forgiveness, kindness, purity, charity, yagya and brahmacharya.
Lord Krishna got impressed by these acts of King Kuru and blessed him and gave him two boons. One of that is allotted the land to him which is Holy land and after his death it was named as Kurukshetra which means the Land of Kuru and the second is that anyone dies on this land will go to Heaven.
What to See:
The Sri Krishna Museum: It has ancient and modern representations of this heroic incarnation o Lord Vishnu.
Bhramasarovar: It is the largest water tank or the ghat-flanked. According to the Hindu epics it was created by Lord Brahma. It attracts the throngs during the solar eclipse and Gita Jayanti.
Sheikh Chaheli’s tomb: It is situated around 2.3km away from the Sri Krishna museum. It is the place where Sufi saint is hidden with his family in sandstone and marble mausoleums.
How to Reach:
It offers the train and buses facilities. There are many trains are coming and going through Kurukshetra. There is a very good bus services from Delhi and many more places which takes a little and convenient way to travel. It takes only 3 hours and affordable journey from Delhi to Kurukshetra. By air you can reach here via Delhi, Delhi has well established international as well as domestic airport that are well connected to the rest of the world. There are many cheap flights to and from Delhi to all over India and cheap air tickets are easily available with travel agents.
Where to Stay:
It is also called as Heaven but there are not many hotels in this town. It offers many Dharamshalas, which are affordable to every class of people. It does not serve modern amenities. One of the Dharamshala is known as Neelkanthi Krishna Dham Yatri Niwas. It provides best accommodation facilities.
