whether from an authoritarian to a democratic transition
Taiwan’s road to democracy, whether from an authoritarian to a democratic transition, or to carry out democratization has two decades of experience, are considered to explore the possibility of Chinese culture.
However, six decades after the war to Taiwan’s political history, on whether Taiwan’s internal, or friends outside of Taiwan, are filled with a lot of fog, or a different understanding. These errors or different interpretations, some based on fact not really grasp, while others reflect the analyst’s ideological restrictions.
Professor Li Fan This article is fairly accurate analysis of Taiwan’s democratic path, as well as Taiwan’s democratic achievements and problems of practice. As Professor Lee said, the general poor understanding of the Congress to fight, “Let the bullets fly,” the election, or democracy is Taiwan independence. And bring these issues to understand Taiwan’s democracy, or democracy is not suitable for the Chinese, or that democracy itself is very flawed, are very wrong.
Taiwan’s democracy, of course not without problems, but these are not exactly the most superficial symptoms. In my opinion, the problem is the lack of democracy in Taiwan for more mechanisms to strengthen citizen participation, the lack of a clearer specification of political interests, did not do transitional justice, not to establish a stronger autonomous public areas (such as sound media), so that the new democracy does not promote greater social equality, encouraged the corrupt practices of politicians, and so inherited from the authoritarian era politicians and bureaucrats still lacks the concept of human rights and democracy and so on.
In general, access to basic civil rights, but in the real operation of this system is still on course will help those who hold political and economic power, but there is room for ordinary citizens to mobilize to affect those not conducive to their policies, or elections to punish politicians.
Professor Lee’s article, the only debatable is that the 2004 election, Lien and Soong had a great combination of the opportunity to win the election, but perhaps because two bullets so let Chen Shui-bian narrowly. This is why many people believe the point of view. Two bullets may really change the election results, but we must note that in pre-election poll support for the two sides close to, not a big chance to win Lien and Soong. It is also because both sides are evenly matched, so the impact of two bullets to the tens of thousands of votes can affect the election.
Understand the issue not only affects our analysis of the 2004 election. In fact, two years later, the DPP’s supporters gradually increase (in a recent article, I analyze the social basis of the changes between the two parties), both 2004, the basic drive has considerable strength. 2008 election because of serious corruption Chen Shui-bian, Ma Ying-jeou with the ultra-popular, so the green camp defeated; but five are from the last election to next year’s election, the two parties once again back to being evenly fundamentals. Therefore, now no one says no in the end who will win the election.Yes, those true religion outlet which were considered very feminine, are today the most popular piece of men’s clothing. You can see many men wearing these and making a unique fashion statement.Along with the name tag as the most worn clothing, denim jeans are also included in the list of costliest apparels. It is my personal experience that most of the cheap true religion are soft, as compared to the stiff feeling imparted by the inexpensive ones. While you can save money by buying such true religion shorts jeans, you have to tolerate the uncomfortable feeling of wearing these jeans.
