The 2012 Chevrolet Aveo
The new Chevrolet Aveo is due to arrive soon, but what does the new model offer to tempt drivers to the showrooms?
Launched in 2002, the Chevrolet Aveo was originally manufactured by by the South Korean General Motors subsidiary, Daewoo. Sold across 120 countries under five different brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, Holden, Pontiac, and Suzuki), it was based on the then-new T200 platform.
The Chevrolet Aveo in its current guise is a compact city hatchback, ideal for those living in urban environments. There are two petrol units available – a 1.2-litre and a 1.4-litre, both of which offer competent performance, if not the sporty delivery of power found in small hatches like the Volkswagen Polo.
The current Aveo has three trim levels, will all but the entry-level models coming with air conditioning. Higher trims come with a six speaker stereo with steering wheel mounted audio controls and a sunroof.
The brand new Chevrolet Aveo will be priced from £9,995 and has had a bit of a facelift, with a newly sculpted front and wedge shaped profile. Chevrolet UK Managing Director, Mark Terry, said, “We wanted to take the image of small cars away from being cute and cuddly. Instead, we’ve delivered a car that’s striking, bold and has attitude.”
Standard spec includes a rear spoiler, remote locking and electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, while mid-range LT models add 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity. The top trim is the LTZ, which brings rear parking sensors and automatic headlamps.
The new Aveo will be available from launch with two petrol and two diesel engines, all mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard. If you’re a Chevy fan living in the west of England, you’ll be able to pick up a new Chevrolet Aveo in Cheltenham, Gloucester or Worcester in 2012.
