Why Focusing on The Negative Will Bring Negativity Into Your Life
What you focus on in life you get? Does this mean that if you focus on a boulder landing on your house that you will get a boulder landing on your house? No. That’s called a cartoon. Although I suppose it could happen.
The way I view the power of focus is like this:
• If you constantly focus on negative thoughts, feelings, things, and people then you will bring about negative experiences in your life.
• If you constantly focus on positive thoughts, feelings, things, and people then you will bring about positive experiences in your life.
A Simple Way to Understand What Focusing on Something Can Do
Try this little game. Cover your eyes and imagine a color. It doesn’t matter what the color is as long as you can see it in your mind. Now uncover you eyes and take a look around you for that color. It can be on something or someone, in a picture, your food, on this website – wherever! Really focus on the color you picked. Soon you will see that the color you picked out is the only color you really see. All other colors will fade into the background while your color of choice will pop out everywhere you look.
Now cover up your eyes and imagine another color. Then uncover your eyes and look for THAT color around you. Do you see how the new color is the one that stands out now? Even the original color you chose will start to drift into the background.
That is the power of focus.
Whatever you are focusing on is what you see, and all the other things that are not in your focus drift into the background or completely off your radar. It doesn’t matter if you are focusing on colors or something else. Focus is focus. And if you focus on something for a very long time then can you imagine how you may be blocking out many other things that are actually in your sight?
Take negative and positive situations, people, and events for example. If you put your focus on negative things for a long period of time, eventually that’s all you can see! The positive situations, people, or events start to drift into the background or off of your radar. And the same holds true when you focus on the positive aspect of life! The negative starts to drift into the background!
Luckily negative focus is easy to change. All you have to do is start ‘seeing’ the positive.
Negative and positive focus encompasses a whole array of areas.
- Work situations
- Relationships
- Happiness
- Mental Health
- Physical Health
- Spiritual Health
Etc…
For example if you focus on a negative co-worker at work then you are putting all your attention on that negative co-worker. This means that you may start to act grumpy, jealous, and angry – you will start to feel negative yourself. Soon people will see you as the negative co-worker and you will bring about negative situations because of this!
Another example is in your mental state. If you are always complaining and being negative then your mental state doesn’t focus on positive things like positive growth. It can’t because it’s stuck complaining about the present or the past. It can’t move forward.
Don’t underestimate the power of focus in your life. Try to keep your life focused on what you want to obtain what you want.
