Applying makeup foundation the right way

When it comes to applying foundation on the face you need to know what you are doing.

Many people make the worst mistake ever which is covering the whole of your face with

foundation. What this results in is the worst possible look they could hope for – an un-natural

look which portrays them to be wearing a mask. This article explains the correct way of

applying foundation makeup or tinted moisturiser to the skin.

Step 1

Before applying any kind of makeup to you face, ensure your face is clean and moisturised.

Apply dabs of concealer on under eye circles and any areas which have blemishes. When

applying concealer it is important to dab the concealer and nor rub it. Many makeup artists

recommend you apply concealer before applying foundation because you will use less

foundation if you first use concealer to cover the problem areas.

Step 2

If you have any red spots or uneven areas of skin – usually the chin, around the nose, under

your eyes and corners of the mouth, always dot foundation on these problem areas. What

you are not looking to do is cover the whole face, you are just looking for an even skin tone.

Starting at the inside of your face and moving outwards, slowly blend the foundation into

your skin. There are a number of ways you can do this – using your fingers, using a nylon

brush (the best method) or using a wedge shaped sponge.

Step 3

What you want to do is avoid the mask look. To do this you need to blend the foundation at the jaw line and hairline so you have a nice even tone.

Step 4

Once you have applied your foundation you can finish off the look with compressed powder.A good tip is to carry blotting tissues with you just to soak up any oiliness throughout the

day. This is great because it means you don’t have to keep topping up with powder. If

you apply makeup foundation in the correct way your face will have a beautiful even tone.

Ensure you choose the correct foundation makeup suitable for your skin.
