Online Doctor Consultation, Is This the Future of Healthcare?
What is the future for an Online Doctor? I believe the future is looking very rosy for this form of internet based healthcare and education. In the poor financial climate in which we all live, countries with private health care as primary provider, mean many are unable to afford the expensive policies offered. Turning to alternatives, people can certainly save a lot of money by visiting an internet doctor. Some look for a free Online Doctor where the expense of the consultation is normally met through advertising, but even healthcare websites that charge are generally cheaper options.
Online doctor consultation service is an ideal resource for everyone – particularly those who have limited or no health insurance, who are too sick to leave the house to go to the doctor’s (where other sick people are!), and those who are often away from home. To obtain online doctor consultations and prescriptions, as well as doctors’ excuses for work or school, is especially ideal for people on the go.
Are online doctors a good thing? I believe the answer is yes! An internet doctor provides value for money as well as convenience and is usually available 24/7. In situations where access to a doctor is difficult or not possible then they’re definitely a good option.
Does an Online Doctor work for everyone? At present, I believe the answer is No. Why? Because a consultation is not just about the history of a complaint, it is the examination, investigation and treatment of the individual too. At present, the main reliance is on the history of the complaint alone in most cases. However, 70% of diagnosis can come from the history so two-thirds of visitors will obtain an appropriate diagnosis and help. However, examination is mainly limited to webcam technology or photos. A full examination is not possible at this stage although with advancing technologies I believe this will change. Treatment via online prescription is currently limited to quite basic conditions, but in time this will change. As more and more people seek this effective method of health care delivery new mechanisms will be put in place to deal with these issues.
Surgical and Emergency health care will always be the remit of a hospital, but more family doctor related health care will become internet based and there are now family practices already doing so. When cost-effective healthcare systems are looked at, an Online Doctor healthcare system will be an attractive mode of delivery. This may not be to everyone’s taste, but for busy internet savvy individuals this may well become their preferred method of healthcare delivery and one that will become economically driven too.
