How to Take Care of Hair Extension Products to Keep Them Looking Good
A few thoughts on how to make sure that the added length they provide looks just as good as the rest of your hair.
One of the problems that can be encountered when extending your hair with any of the products that are currently on the market is that because they are not actually a part of you, the natural oils that protect your own locks will not protect them, something that you will need to take into account when using them for any length of time. It is also best not to indulge in vigorous activities when wearing them as it can be difficult to untangle them without causing any damage.
Your extensions need to be washed regularly but this should not be done whilst you are wearing them. It is much better to wash them separately, using a good quality shampoo that is not too acidic, working from the top to the bottom. It is also important to be gentle as overenthusiastic rubbing can do more harm than good. After shampooing and rinsing, many people find that the best way to dry them is to leave them flat.
Sleeping with hair extension products in place is a bad idea, for the same reasons that it is inadvisable to exercise too vigorously whilst wearing them: they can get tangled quite easily. It may sound like a chore to have to keep removing them and attaching them again in the morning but good quality products can be attached in under a minute so it is not as bad as you might think. The best ones do not require the use of glue or clips either, which comes as something of a relief to most people.
If you live in a hot country or are planning to wear your extensions on holiday then it is a good idea to take along some heat protective spray to apply to them regularly. This should help to protect them from being damaged by exposure to a lot of sunlight. The same precautions should be taken whenever it is likely that you will be exposed to unusual levels of heat for any length of time. If you follow the above tips and use your common sense then there is no reason why you cannot look glamorous with your new tresses for a long time to come.
