Got a convertible? Get to California

There are, of course, a lot of drawbacks to owning a convertible sport car in the UK today. Ever increasing congestion, unreadable weather patterns and the sheer practicality of most make the soft-top option a difficult one to justify a lot of the time.

But if you strip away all the day-to-day nonsense you have to think about when buying some new wheels, a convertible sport car can provide a driving thrill like no other vehicle – especially if you’ve got no real place to go and you just so happen to be one of the world’s great driving roads.

The US, with its vast land mass, beautiful landscape and magnificent coast line is one of the first place you should be thinking about going if you do have a powerful convertible and shoe box full of bank notes.

There is, of course, Route 66 to keep you occupied if you struggle to think outside the box when it comes to holiday destinations, but it’s the Pacific Coast Highway that can offer an equal amount of driving fun with the added benefits of stunning sea views.

Sure, there are technically better roads where you can drive faster. There are many that have more challenging (and rewarding) bends and that are more deserted etc, etc, etc.

But – and it is a big but – this road – Pacific Coast Highway – has a combination of fast, slow, twisty, challenging, hilly and flat sections – AND – has some of the most breathtaking scenery known to man.

Theworldsbestdrivingroads.com has loads more on the PCH, including the best sections to drive, things to be aware of and plenty of other hints and tips.

All you have to do is take a convertible sport car worthy of the ride!
