Baby Jeep Hitting Market in Italy

What is being referred to as a “baby Jeep”, is a Fiat model B-segment Jeep. This model will be made in Italy and sold in Europe, but reports are that it may hit the U.S. market at some point, as well. The plant that will make the new baby Jeep was rumored to also be the European plant for the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass, but those plans changed. While the Turin, Italy Minafiori plant will be manufacturing the baby Jeep, the Compass and Patriot will be made elsewhere. Reports are that the replacements for both will e made in the U.S. Reports also indicate that Fiat will be making an Alfa Romeo sibling in the United States, as well.

The baby Jeep is best described as a subcompact crossover, with a basis in the Fiat platform. If the baby Jeep comes to the United States, it may also reach markets across North America and Latin America. Some reports indicate that those Jeeps may be made at a plant in Toluca, Mexico.

The fact that Fiat is creating a baby Jeep for Europe and the U.S. Indicates company realization that such vehicles are popular and endure. Consumers should be pleased with the Fiat design, given the automaker’s reputation, making this new model of Jeep sure to be a hit.

Consumers will, of course, be anxiously awaiting design images, feature lists and safety reports, but given the popularity of both Fiat and Jeep, there is sure to be a large market for the baby Jeep in both Europe and across North America. Consumers will also be awaiting fuel economy numbers as well as the report on the price. The Fiat name tends to invoke thoughts of a higher price tag, so it will be interesting to see how Fiat will incorporate their brand of excellence with a more Jeep-like price tag.
