There are numerous things to do when visiting New York. Of course you can stop at all the typical tourist attractions. Some of these being things like Central Park, or checkout the observatory at the Empire State Building along with many other New York attractions. Ellis Island is of interest to many as well as a boat tour of the Statue of Liberty. It doesn’t end there though when it comes to New York attractions. You can head upstate and visit the United States and Canadian border where you will find Niagara Falls. Remember that you don’t have to stick to the beaten path when it comes to New York attractions. New York is a city with hundreds of languages spoken, that makes it a prime place to absorb culture and see what the city really has to offer. For example a few of the city’s best restaurants may appear to be dives on the outside, but upon entering your world is flipped upside down and you are transported to one of the best eating experiences you could possibly ask for. With the culture being as diverse as can when it comes to New York attractions, be sure you check out regional variations of American cooking such as a patent New York Pizza or a Jewish Deli.
You can utilize the internet or pick up a local paper to see what is happening in the city in terms of New York attractions, with so many people you can ensure that whenever you visit something will be happening. If you are staying at a local hotel, consider asking the staff what to do or see. They often have some great tips that you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of. Of course you don’t need to make it an expedition; many people who have never been to New York have never had the experience of doing something like riding the Subway.
Of course like in any foreign place or big city, you should make sure that you are safe. While it’s good to try new things and step outside the lines or traditional tourism you should never risk your safety to do so. Don’t’ do things like flash large denominations of money, keep to smaller bills and remember the city is filled with ATM’s if you need more money. Be careful of unlit areas and always keep your cell phone on and charged when walking around New York attractions, you never know when you might need it, if not for yourself for someone else.
