Blind Or Curtains In Your Home?
Introduction
When it comes to decorating your home, there are two main ways to finish your windows – using either blinds, or curtains. Both have advantages and disadvantages. One is more modern, and the other traditional, although the overall decision is up to you, hopefully this article can help you make up your mind.
The Advantages
Blinds can make your room look clean and modern; the most common blinds at the moment are very thin and horizontal. This style and fashion changes frequently however, as only a few years ago, wide vertical blinds were more popular. The color of choice is currently metallic, or off-white.
Curtains are the more traditional choice, and can make your home feel cosy and warm. Popular choices right now, are very heavy, light colored designs, will little or no patterns. Tiebacks are also unpopular right now, with the curtains being simply allowed to flow to the ground from the ceiling.
The Disadvantages
The main disadvantage of blinds is they are incredibly difficult to dust. Special blind cleaning brushes are available, but typically they will need to be taken down and washed. Blinds are also not as effective as curtains at stopping light, with blackout curtains making a room completely dark. Blinds can also be damaged more easily.
Curtains can simply be vacuumed, and can also have a pull string to open and close them. The main disadvantage of curtains is they could spoil your modern clean apartment design. Blinds are minimalistic and stop clutter.
Conclusion
Some people choose to use a combination of both, using the blinds to stop people seeing into their homes, then drawing the curtains at night to stop light. This dual combination means you no longer have to have net curtains up – which look very dated. The most common choice at the moment is blinds, but curtains are once again picking up popularity.
